During a reception at the Warrensburgh Museum of Local History, Delbert Chambers (right) talks to a visitor to the popular venue. Due in part to a substantial increase in visitors this past year, the museum is now seeking volunteer greeters. While Chambers has curated exhibits and has extensive experience related to the museum, prospective greeters aren’t required to have experience as docents — just an interest in history and an outgoing attitude.
WARRENSBURG The Warrensburg Museum of Local History is now seeking volunteers — either as museum guides, or for maintenance duties.
The only requirement for becoming a guide is a friendly personality and an interest in Warrensburg's history. A handbook is provided to explain the work.
Volunteers may serve as little as two hours per month. The schedule for guide service may be found on the Museum page of Warrensburg Historical Society's website.
The maintenance duties call for weekly cleaning chores — approximately one to two hours per week.
For more information on volunteering or for details on the facility or its collections, contact Museum Director Steve Parisi at 623-2207.
The Museum continues its winter hours, which are 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays.
Preparations are under way for the Museum ’s 2013 Bicentennial exhibition entitled, "From Frontier to Front Porch — 200 Years."
An opening reception will be held for this exhibit on Sunday Feb. 17 at the Museum.
Now through the end of February, the Museum’s Book Corner is offering to Chamber of Commerce members $1 off all historical publications, including the 2013 Bicentennial Calendar. To receive this discount, simply mention that you are a member of the Chamber. As always, admission to the Museum, which is fully accessible, is free. Entrance and parking are at the rear of the building, located at 3754 Main St.
Owned by the Town of Warrensburg, the Museum is operated by the Warrensburgh Historical Society. Membership information can be found on the Society's website, www.whs12885.org, or at the Museum.
